Visual Review Agent
Use the Visual Review Agent for AI summaries and smarter visual differences.
Traditional visual testing often flags minor differences, even those that are barely noticeable, leading to unnecessary reviews and slower release cycles. The AI-based Visual Review Agent reduces noise by identifying meaningful differences, cutting down on manual effort and review fatigue. With intelligent automation and natural language summaries, it helps streamline decision-making and improve testing efficiency.
The following video explains how Visual Review Agent feature works:
Smarter highlights with Visual Review Agent
The review experience powered by Visual Review Agent replaces traditional pixel-based noise with cleaner, smarter highlights and summaries. The After image shows:
- Bounding boxes only around meaningful changes.
- No red pixel noise.
- Clear summary of what changed.
Benefits of using the Visual Review Agent
- Faster reviews: Focus on meaningful changes instead of pixel-level noise.
- Reduced false positives: AI distinguishes significant differences from minor layout shifts.
- Human-like context: Understand changes at a glance with natural language summaries.
- Improved efficiency: Spend less time reviewing and more time shipping confidently.
Get started
The Visual Review Agent based review system goes beyond traditional pixel-by-pixel comparisons, providing a more intuitive and accurate review experience. Follow these steps to enable and use this feature.
To leverage Visual Review Agent for visual testing, activate BrowserStack AI from the BrowserStack’s accounts settings page. For more information, check out our detailed documentation on activating AI preferences.
Enable Visual Review Agent
To enable the Visual Review Agent, go to the Build review screen of your Percy Project and toggle the AI-powered build button. Once enabled, all snapshots in the project are reviewed using the Visual Review Agent.
Toggle interactions: Build and Snapshot level
The Visual Review Agent offers flexible review options through two toggles:
- Build-level toggle: Sets the default review mode for the entire build and updates the snapshot-level toggles accordingly.
- Turning it off automatically turns off all snapshot-level AI toggles, setting your default review mode to non-AI.
- Turning it on automatically turns on all snapshot-level AI toggles, defaulting to AI diffs for all snapshots.
- Snapshot-level toggle – Lets you switch the mode for an individual snapshot, regardless of the default set at the build level.
- For example, if a Percy diff is difficult to interpret or shows many false positives, you can switch that snapshot to AI mode for clearer, natural-language descriptions.
Toggle state management for snapshots
- If the build-level toggle is off, you can enable the snapshot-level toggle to view AI diffs for the current snapshot. This affects only the snapshot you are viewing.
- If the build-level toggle is on, the snapshot-level toggle defaults to AI for any snapshot not previously viewed in your current session.
Build‑level ROI
When you use the Visual Review Agent, each build now shows a summary of the time and effort saved by Percy AI. This includes:
- Fewer visual differences indicating the number of visual changes automatically filtered out as noise.
- Estimated review time saved showing how much time you avoid spending on reviewing those changes. These indicators update for every build, helping you quantify the value Percy Visual Review Agent brings to your visual testing workflow.
View ignored changes
You can show or hide changes filtered out by the Visual Review Agent, Regions, or Intelli ignore. These are grouped under a single control labeled Diffs ignored by. Click the highlighted icon to view the ignored changes.
Once you enable AI, and if it ignores any differences, the build review screen highlights them with a purple bounding box, as shown in the image.
Provide feedback
All team members with build comment permissions can give feedback on AI-generated differences and summaries. Following are the available feedback options:
- Thumbs up/down.
- Comment (optional): Enter up to 120 characters. This option is only available when a thumbs-up or thumbs-down is given.
Things to keep in mind
- Visual Review Agent diffing is currently available for comparisons with vertical lengths under 4500px.
- If the Visual Review Agent diffing is active and you open the RCA panel, the panel will still display all differences from the standard Percy comparison.
- Visual Review Agent is part of a beta rollout, feedback is welcome to improve the experience.
