Visual Scanner

Automatically scans URLs at scheduled intervals to spot visual defects at scale.

Visual scanning refers to the process of continuously observing and analyzing the visual elements of a system, an application, or a website to detect and address any issues related to the user interface, design, or appearance.

Percy’s visual scanner feature is designed for effortlessly overseeing the visual appeal of your website or application. It conduct quick checks by specifying the URLs you want to assess, and schedule routine visual scans to stay ahead of any unexpected alterations. This feature ensures that your digital content consistently delivers an appealing and seamless user experience.

Follow these steps to get started with visual scanning:

Switch to visual scanner

Sign in to Percy, and you’ll be directed to the Percy dashboard. Once there, you’ll see two options:

  • Visual testing
  • Visual scanner

Choose Visual scanner and click the New Scan to launch the create a new scan window.

Create a new scan

Create a new scan by specifying scanner name and the websites to be scanned.

  1. Specify a name for the scan.
  2. Specify the web page URLs you wish to scan. A maximum of 20 URLs are allowed.
  3. Click Create scan.

Screenshots are scheduled to be captured every 6 hours by default.

After creating a scan, Percy initiates the capture of screenshots for the specified URLs, generating a new build every 6 hours. The first build is auto-approved.

View Results

To review the results of the build, go to the Visual scanner dashboard and choose the project you created from the Scans page.

Review generated build

Integrate Slack and/or Microsoft Teams to receive notifications about the visual differences on the specified URLs.

Configure and customize scanning parameters with our scan settings.

Scan Details

After creating a scan, you can navigate to the scan details section on this page. Here, you have the option to edit the scan name, project slug, and webpage URLs.

Configure the diff sensitivity for your created project to customize the way visual changes appear in builds. Learn more.

You have the option to archive or activate scans. Click Archive project to archive a project or Enable project to activate it.
