Audit Logs and History

Learn how to track user activity and monitor changes across your Test Management workspace using Audit Logs and History.

BrowserStack Test Management provides Audit Logs and History to give you visibility into what is happening in your workspace:

  • Audit Logs: A workspace-level log of high-level actions, such as creating, updating, and deleting entities, performed across projects. Audit Logs are useful for admins, compliance teams, and anyone who needs an overview of activity across the workspace.
  • History: A detailed, field-level change log for a specific entity. Shows exactly what changed, who changed it, and when. History is useful for tracking how a test case has evolved over time.

Audit Logs

Audit Logs record significant actions performed on entities in your Test Management workspace. They help you answer questions like the following:

  • β€œWho deleted this test plan?”
  • β€œWhen was this test run created?”
  • β€œWhich user made changes to these test cases?”

Tracked entities and actions

Audit Logs currently track the following entities and actions:

Entity Tracked actions
Test Cases Create, Update, Archive, Delete
Test Plans Create, Update, Delete
Test Runs Create, Update, Delete

Audit log information

Each audit log entry contains the following details:

Field Description
Date/Time When the action was performed
Entity Type The type of entity affected (Test Case, Test Plan, or Test Run)
Entity ID and Name The unique identifier and name of the entity
Action The action performed: Create, Update, Archive, or Delete
User The name of the user who performed the action
Mode Whether the action was performed through the UI or the API

Access and export Audit Logs

To access Audit Logs:

  1. In your Test Management workspace, click Settings.
  2. Select Audit Logs from the left navigation.

To export Audit Logs:

  1. Select the time range for the logs you want to export:
    • Predefined ranges: Last 30 Days, Last 6 Months, or Last 1 Year.
    • Custom range: Set a specific From and To date.
  2. Click Export.

The exported CSV file includes all audit log entries for the selected time range.

Downloading audit logs requires the appropriate permission. Contact your workspace admin if you do not have access.

Data retention

Audit log data is retained based on your BrowserStack plan:

Plan Retention period
Free 30 days
Team / Team Pro 1 year
Team Ultimate 1 year
Enterprise 2 years

The following limits apply per export request:

  • Maximum download period per request: 1 year.
  • Maximum historical data available: Up to the last 2 years.
  • Maximum entries per export file: Up to 250,000.

History

History is a detailed, field-by-field change log for a specific entity. Unlike Audit Logs, which show high-level actions across the workspace, History focuses on a single entity. It shows exactly what changed, including the previous and new values for each modified field.

Tracked fields

History is available for Test Cases. Each History entry shows:

  • Date and time: When the change was made, shown in your local system time.
  • User: Who made the change.
  • Changed fields: The specific fields that were updated, along with their previous and new values.
