Test multilingual text input scenarios

You can test scenarios that require multilingual or non-English text input on your website using Live. On Live, to input multilingual text into a text area, you can use the following methods:

Using copy and paste

You can copy any Unicode text from your local system and paste it into the text area in the Live test session. Copy and paste is supported for any text covered under the Unicode Standard.

Supported on all Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows devices.

Use copy and paste to input multilingual text

To copy and paste text in a non-English language:

  1. Log in to the Live dashboard.
  2. Select the device and browser to start the Live test session.
  3. Copy the non-English text you want to input from your local system.
  4. In the Live session, click the text area and paste the copied non-English text.

Using keyboard

You can also directly type multilingual text into a text area in the Live test session using the language-specific physical keyboard or local system keyboard.

Supported platforms

Supported only on Android and iOS devices.

Language-specific physical keyboard

The language-specific physical keyboard is the USB keyboard for a specific language that you can connect to your local system.

To input text in a non-English language using the language-specific physical keyboard:

  1. Connect the language-specific keyboard to your local system.
  2. Log in to the Live dashboard.
  3. Select a device and browser to start a Live session.
  4. Click the text area on your website and use the connected keyboard to enter the text in the required language.

Local system keyboard

The local system keyboard is the on-screen keyboard on your local system that you are using to perform the test.

Prerequisite for using the local system keyboard

On your local system, ensure that you add keyboard languages, also known as, input sources or input methods. For instructions, see:

After you add two or more keyboard languages, you can switch between the languages using shortcuts or the language bar on your local system.

Use the local system keyboard to input text in a non-English language

To type in a non-English language using your local system keyboard:

  1. Log in to the Live dashboard.
  2. Select an Android device and browser to start a Live session.
  3. Click the text area on your website.
    The virtual keyboard opens.
  4. On the virtual keyboard, click the keyboard icon in the bottom-right corner. Click keyboard icon
  5. In the Choose input method menu, select BrowserStack IME. Click keyboard icon
  6. Switch to the language you want to use to perform the test using shortcut or language bar on your local system.
  7. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the text in the required language.

Example

The following video shows how to switch to BrowserStack IME and use French and German keyboards on an Android device in a Live test session. The test session is running on a macOS local system. To switch between the languages, we are using the Fn key.

To type in a non-English language using your local system keyboard:

  1. Log in to the Live dashboard.
  2. Select an iOS device and your browser to start a Live session.
  3. On your website, click the text area.
  4. Switch to the language you want to use to perform the test using shortcut or language bar on your local system.
  5. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the text in the required language.

Example

The following video shows how to use Russian and Japanese keyboards on an iOS device in a Live test session. The test session is running on a macOS local system. To switch between the languages, we are using the Fn key.
