Upgrade the BrowserStack SDK for Appium

How to upgrade the BrowserStack SDK for your Appium tests across languages, and why keeping it current matters.

The BrowserStack SDK is released as a versioned package for each language, which you upgrade independently of your test code.

Why upgrade the SDK

Staying on a recent SDK version gives you:

  • Latest framework and language support: compatibility with newer releases of your test frameworks (such as WebdriverIO, Playwright, and TestNG) and new language or framework integrations.
  • New features and capabilities: access to the latest BrowserStack product features delivered through the SDK.
  • Bug fixes and reliability: improved session stability, more accurate reporting, better performance, and security updates.
  • Continued support: very old SDK versions can lose support for new dashboard features or run into breaking API changes.

How to upgrade

Always upgrade to the latest version. Select your language or tool to see the upgrade steps:

Update the version in your pom.xml file, then rebuild the project:

If you use Gradle, bump the version in your build.gradle file and re-sync the project.
