De-duplicate test cases after quick import

Use BrowserStack’s AI-powered Deduplication Agent to automatically identify and remove duplicate test cases after the import.

After importing test cases using the quick import feature, you may find that some of the imported test cases are duplicates of existing ones in your project. BrowserStack’s AI-powered Deduplication Agent can help you identify and resolve these duplicates efficiently. Without the Deduplication Agent, you would discover these one by one over the next several weeks.

The agent eliminates that lag. When you import via Quick Import or CSV/Feature file, the agent can automatically scan the entire project, existing test cases plus newly imported ones, and surface duplicates as soon as the import completes.

There are two kinds of duplicates during import:

  • ID-based conflicts happen during Quick Import when an imported test case shares the same ID as one already in Test Management. This is a structural check that prevents import failures. You handle it by choosing whether to retain or regenerate IDs on the import screen.

  • Content-based duplicates are what the Deduplication Agent finds. After import completes, the agent scans all test cases in the project and flags pairs that match in meaning, even if their IDs, titles, and wording are completely different. This is AI-driven analysis, not an ID check.

The two processes run independently. Resolving an ID conflict during import does not prevent the agent from later flagging those same test cases as content duplicates.

Review results after import

Regardless of import method, the agent’s results appear in the same places:

  • Review {X} duplicates button on the Test Cases page which is your primary entry point for a focused cleanup.
  • Duplicate count badges on each test case in the list view for quick checks on individual cases.
  • Projects listing page badges shows a project-level view of how many duplicates the import introduced.

For step-by-step instructions on comparing, merging, archiving, or discarding flagged pairs, see Review and resolve duplicates.
