Migrate from the standalone Bug Capture extension to Testing Toolkit
Learn what changes for your login, plan, and data when you migrate from the standalone Bug Capture extension to Testing Toolkit.
BrowserStack is retiring the standalone Bug Capture extension. Bug Capture is now part of BrowserStack Testing Toolkit, and all users migrate to the Testing Toolkit extension.
The standalone Bug Capture extension was originally called Bird Eats Bug. Plans purchased under either name, through Paddle, AppSumo, or a custom agreement, are called legacy plans on this page.
BrowserStack carries over all your data. Your recordings, workspaces, folders, comments, integrations, and shared links remain available. You don’t need to export anything or set anything up.
The changes that apply to you depend on how you log in and which plan you’re on. This page covers both.
Timeline
The migration to Testing Toolkit happens in the following phases:
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Now | Logging in with Google, GitHub, or an email link is turned off. All users now log in with BrowserStack. |
| Next few weeks | The standalone Bug Capture extension continues to work. BrowserStack emails you the exact end date well in advance. |
| After the end date | You can capture bugs only with the Testing Toolkit extension. |
We recommend that you install the Testing Toolkit extension now for a smooth transition. If any recordings are still unsaved in the standalone Bug Capture extension when it’s turned off, you can recover them in Testing Toolkit.
What you get with Testing Toolkit
Testing Toolkit is a Chrome extension that brings Bug Capture together with more than 10 manual testing tools. Testing Toolkit covers your workflow from test setup through execution and bug resolution. With Testing Toolkit, you get the following benefits:
- Broader test coverage, with tools for both functional and non-functional testing.
- A single installation, with no separate tools or accounts to set up and manage.
- Fewer context switches, because all tools are available within your testing workflow.
For more information, see the Testing Toolkit documentation.
Log in to Testing Toolkit
How you continue depends on how you log in today.
If you log in with Google, GitHub, or an email link
The legacy login with Google, GitHub, or an email link is turned off, and you’re logged out. To continue, follow these steps:
- Create a BrowserStack account with the same email address that you currently use to log in. Your data is linked automatically. If you already have a BrowserStack account, log in to BrowserStack with it.
- Accept the BrowserStack terms. You need to do this only once.
- Switch to your existing legacy workspace. Signing up creates a new private workspace, which is selected by default, so your recordings might not appear at first. Your legacy workspace, including your recordings and current plan, remains available. Switch to your legacy settings to access your recordings.
- Select your legacy workspace for your first upload. BrowserStack saves new recordings from either extension to the new private workspace by default. After your first upload, the workspace you last uploaded to is selected automatically.
BrowserStack bills the new private workspace on Testing Toolkit plans, not on your legacy plan. The workspace starts on a trial, with up to two trials per person. After the trial ends, you need a Testing Toolkit plan to upload to that workspace. Your legacy plan applies only to your legacy workspaces.
Uploading from the standalone Bug Capture extension also requires your BrowserStack login.
You can no longer delete your account in the app. To delete your account, contact Support.
If you log in with BrowserStack
You don’t need to do anything. You stay logged in, you’ve already accepted the BrowserStack terms, and your workspaces are unchanged.
To delete your account, contact Support or use your BrowserStack account settings.
Changes to your plan
Find your plan in the following sections. All features remain available as long as your plan includes them.
Legacy plan paid through Paddle, AppSumo, or a custom agreement
If you’re on a paid legacy plan, the following changes apply:
- Billing: Legacy plans are retired. Your plan remains active, but you can no longer change it in the app. To upgrade, add seats, renew, or cancel, contact Sales.

Legacy Free plan or expired trial

- Billing and trials: You manage these on BrowserStack.
- Features: Upload limits, comments, integrations, folder email alerts, and the website widget are unchanged and continue to depend on your plan.

Unchanged
The following features work as before:
- Shared links continue to work.
- Console and network logs are unchanged.
- The Trello and email share buttons are unchanged.
- Notifications for comments, mentions, assignments, uploads, and invites continue to be sent, now from BrowserStack. This change also applies to trial and usage-limit emails.
Changed
The following features work differently:
- The standalone Bug Capture dashboard displays a notice about the migration and redirects you to the Testing Toolkit dashboard.
- Videos recorded with the standalone Bug Capture extension download in WebM format instead of MP4, because they’re no longer converted to MP4. You can play WebM files in Chrome, Firefox, and VLC. Videos recorded with Testing Toolkit download in MP4 format.
- You can’t open recordings older than your plan’s retention period. If you need access to one, contact Support.
Discontinued
The following features are no longer available:
- You can no longer create new accounts with the legacy login. New users can sign up on BrowserStack.
- Marketing emails for the standalone Bug Capture extension are discontinued.
- Slack no longer displays link previews when you paste a recording link. The link itself continues to work.
- Status updates from Slack, GitHub, and Linear no longer sync to Bug Capture. Issues are still created, but changes made in those tools aren’t reflected in Bug Capture.
- Zapier integrations are discontinued, and existing Zaps no longer run. We recommend that you replace any Zapier automations.
