Get started with BrowserStack MCP

Install and configure the BrowserStack MCP Server for your AI-enabled client.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions to get you connected and running in just a few minutes.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, please ensure you have the following accounts and software set up.

BrowserStack account

You need your Username and Access Key to complete the setup.

  • If you don’t have an account, you can sign up for a free trial.
  • Your credentials can be found on the Account > Settings page after you sign in.

Supported AI-enabled client

Install a supported IDE, such as VS Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, or Cline, along with an AI assistant/extension (like GitHub Copilot on VS Code).

Node.js

  • The server requires Node.js v22+. We recommend installing the latest Long-Term Support (LTS) version. To check your current version, run this command in your terminal:
node --version

You can set up the MCP server in two ways:

  1. Local MCP server, which runs on your machine and requires local installation.

    OR
  2. Remote MCP server, which runs in the cloud and requires no local installation.
