Connect your app
Upload an iOS or Android build, or pick one already on BrowserStack, then start a real-device session in Test Companion.
Test Companion needs an app file before it can generate, automate, or fix anything. After you connect, the AI runs your app on a real BrowserStack device for every task in the session.
Switch to App mode
Test Companion opens in Web mode. Click App at the bottom of the panel to switch.
A Select App button appears next to the toggle.

Quick-action buttons (Generate test cases, Write automation code, and others) work the same way in both modes. The difference is what they run against. Web mode runs on a URL. App mode runs on your connected app.
Connect an app file
Click Select App to open the Connect the App to test dialog. You have two options.

Option 1: Upload a new build
Click Browse file and select a file from your computer.
| File type | Platform | Description |
|---|---|---|
.apk |
Android | Standard Android application package. |
.aab |
Android | Android App Bundle, Google’s publishing format. |
.xapk |
Android | Extended APK that includes additional resources. |
.ipa |
iOS | Standard iOS application archive. |
The build is stored in your BrowserStack account. You do not need to upload it again unless you have a new version.
Option 2: Select a previously uploaded app
Below the upload area, the Recently Uploaded Apps on BrowserStack section lists every build in your account, including builds uploaded through App Automate.

Each entry shows the file name, version, who uploaded it, and when. The platform icon shows whether it’s an Android .apk or an iOS .ipa.
To find an app in a long list, type in the search bar or click Filters to narrow by platform or upload date.
Click any app to select it.
Verify the app is connected
After you select or upload an app:
- The dialog closes and you return to the Test Companion panel.
- The selected app appears as a chip next to the App toggle (for example,
LocalSample.ip... ×).

The chip is your confirmation. The next prompt you send starts a real-device session, installs the app, and runs the requested task.
Switch or disconnect the app
To switch apps, click × on the app chip, then click Select App to pick a different one.
To return to web testing, click the Web toggle. Your app selection and workspace context are preserved. The connection survives across mode switches and workspace restarts.

Next steps
- Generate test cases: Create test cases from requirements or by exploring the app.
- Automate tests: Generate executable scripts for any framework.
- Fix failed tests: Diagnose and patch failing app tests.
