Quick Import from Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server

Import test cases, test runs, and test plans from Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server into BrowserStack Test Management using Quick Import.

Quick Import copies your projects and test data from Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server into BrowserStack Test Management. You do not export files or map fields. After you connect your Jira instance and select projects, the import runs in the background. Test Management emails you when it completes.

Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server is the Zephyr Essential plugin on a self-hosted Jira Server or Data Center instance. If your Zephyr Essential runs on Jira Cloud, follow Quick Import from Zephyr Essential (Squad) Cloud instead.

What Quick Import copies

Quick Import copies test cases, test runs, and test plans, along with their custom fields and attachments. Your Zephyr test cycles become test runs in Test Management.

Each Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server entity maps to a Test Management entity as follows:

Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server Test Management
Test case Test case
Test cycle Test run
Test plan Test plan

Test runs are optional. You choose whether to import them when you select your projects.

Prerequisites

Before you connect, make sure that:

  • Your Jira Data Center version is 10.3.16 or later.
  • Your Zephyr Essential Server version is 10.2.2 or later.
  • You have a Jira personal access token (PAT) for an account that can access all projects you want to import.

Start a Quick Import

Click Quick Import on the top-right corner of the dashboard, or start a Quick Import from an existing project.

On the Quick Import screen:

  1. In the Select your preferred tool to import test cases from section, select Zephyr.
  2. In the Select Zephyr type section, select Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server.

Connect to Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server

  1. Enter Jira Data Centre URL. This is the base URL of your self-hosted Jira instance, for example, https://jira.yourcompany.com.
  2. Enter your Personal Access Token. To create one, see Using personal access tokens in the Atlassian documentation.
  3. Click Test Connection to verify the details.
  4. Click Proceed to save and establish the connection.

Select what to import

Do not change the folder structure in Zephyr Essential (Squad) while an import to Test Management is in progress.

  1. Optional: Select Retain Test Case IDs from Zephyr Essential (Squad) Server while importing to Test Management. Retaining IDs can cause import failures if duplicate test case IDs exist. If you opt out, Test Management generates new IDs for all test cases and keeps the original IDs in a separate field.
  2. Optional: Select Import Test Runs (Cycles) to import your Zephyr cycles as test runs. Only data from the past year is imported.
  3. Select the projects that you want to import.
  4. Optional: If your plan includes AI Deduplication, turn on Scan for Duplicates next to a project. The Deduplication Agent scans the project for duplicate test cases after the import. Learn how to review and resolve duplicate test cases.
  5. Click Begin Import.

Review Import Logs

The Import Logs tab on the Quick Import screen lists your current and past imports. Each entry shows:

  • The import status, updated in real time as the import progresses.
  • The number of imported test cases, test runs, and projects.
  • The team member who started the import and the start time.

Use the action menu, the three dots next to an import, to open View Report or Retry Import. View Report shows detailed results and error messages. Retry Import reruns a failed import.

Quick Import or CSV import saves email addresses of unregistered users and automatically assigns the associated test cases and test runs when they register or log in to Test Management.
