Introduction

Ubisoft supports a sprawling ecosystem of internal tools and client-facing web applications used by millions of players and thousands of employees worldwide. As that ecosystem grew, ensuring accessibility across every platform, not just in games, but in the services and tools behind them, became a core part of the company’s commitment to building experiences everyone can enjoy.

Manual processes and an aging internal device lab couldn’t scale with that ambition. The challenge

Manual testing and an aging device lab couldn’t keep pace with scale

Before BrowserStack, Ubisoft’s mobile and accessibility testing relied on a self-maintained hardware lab and entirely manual review processes, an approach that became harder to sustain as both the device landscape and the company’s digital footprint grew.
1. Accessibility testing was desktop-only and entirely manual: Every check, identifying issues, validating fixes, capturing screenshots, documenting findings was done by another tool, with no automated accessibility coverage.

2. Fragmented tooling and no unified view: With over 100 pages to check and multiple disconnected tools in use, consolidating reports took significant extra effort, and the team had no consistent way to track trends or regressions over time.

3. Real risk to release quality: The combination of slow manual cycles and fragmented reporting created a genuine risk of accessibility issues reaching production, slowed release cycles, increased workload, and made it difficult for product teams to understand the true accessibility status of their own projects.

4. An unsustainable device lab: Ubisoft maintained only a few hundred phones and tablets in-house. New devices launched every year, meaning the lab required continuous reinvestment just to stay current, and even then, it barely covered the real-world landscape of resolutions, operating systems, screen sizes, and hardware variations players actually used.

The solution

A unified platform for real-device testing and automated accessibility scanning

Ubisoft selected BrowserStack to bring expert-level accessibility testing in-house and accelerate validation, for automated WCAG scanning and reporting.

1. Spectra™ rule engine- Detailed scan reports, code snippets, and clear remediation guidance stood out from the moment Ubisoft began evaluating accessibility tools.

2. Workflow Analyzer- Ubisoft rolled the Chrome extension out to team members who needed to validate specific user flows independently. The process was simple: install the extension, navigate the flow being tested, and receive a detailed report by email, comparable in depth to a full website scan, without needing a dedicated accessibility specialist.

3. Website Scanner-  Beyond running standards-based scans, Ubisoft valued the scanner’s ability to crawl an entire site and surface pages the team might otherwise have missed, including localized versions of pages beyond the English and French versions they’d originally been checking. Scheduled scans, custom login handling for credentialed pages, trend reporting, and configurable conformance targets (WCAG 2.1, ADA, EAA, Section 508) rounded out the toolset.

4. Figma plugin- For teams unable to adopt Ubisoft’s internal design system due to technical constraints, the BrowserStack Figma plugin let designers check components for accessibility issues during the design phase itself, catching problems before a single line of code was written.

5. App Automate for mobile- Instant access to a huge range of real devices, without the overhead of maintaining and continually upgrading an internal lab, was an immediate game-changer for mobile testing.

BrowserStack automated the majority of Ubisoft’s accessibility testing, turning a process that once took teams to manually check 100+ pages into scheduled scans with complete reports delivered within minutes.

1. 2,000+ hours saved every quarter- Across each three-month cycle, Ubisoft now saves over 2,000 hours of manual testing effort previously spent scanning, validating, and documenting issues manually.

That finding became a catalyst for pushing broader design system adoption across the company.

5. 100% reduction in device lab overhead- By moving entirely to BrowserStack’s Real Device Cloud, Ubisoft eliminated the cost and operational burden of maintaining and upgrading its own hardware lab.

6. Earlier detection, clearer trends- Issues are now caught before production pushes rather than after, with clear visibility into new-versus-fixed issue trends over time, replacing guesswork with a measurable trend line.

7. Stronger internal confidence- Teams report being able to focus on a much smaller, more manageable set of issues, while project managers and product teams now have a clear, comprehensive view of accessibility status across their projects.
