Local Testing - Overview

Test your apps that interact with internal servers using Local Testing.

Local Testing enables you to test apps that interact with internal servers or servers that are behind a proxy, firewall, or VPN on App Live.

When do you need Local Testing?

You would need Local Testing to test the apps that are in development and available locally. Some examples of such apps are:

• Apps that interact with local servers
• Apps that interact with one or more internal servers

How to enable Local Testing?

To use Local Testing, you need to install the BrowserStack Local app or run the Local binary. For instructions, see Set up Local Testing.

Why do you need to install the BrowserStack Local app or run the binary?

On BrowserStack remote devices, your app can retrieve data from publicly-hosted servers. However, your app cannot directly connect to servers that are hosted privately or behind a proxy, firewall, or VPN. To connect to such servers, the BrowserStack infrastructure requires some kind of network tunneling.

Local Testing creates a network tunnel between your private network and the BrowserStack infrastructure. This allows the BrowserStack remote devices to access the non-public servers hosted in your internal environments. To create this network tunnel, the Local app or binary needs to be installed on your local system that has access to the non-public server.
